In 1869, Friedrich Misher discovered a specific organic material from the nucleus of pus cells, which was previously called nuclein and later nucleic acid.
In view of the complexity of the protein molecule, previously it was assumed that protein is the unit of transmission of genetic origin, but in 1944, Avery, McLoad and MacTorothy proved that nucleic acid is the only genetic material, which can cause symptoms from one generation to another Goes away.

Types of Nucleic Acids : -
Nucleic acid is of two types.
(i) Deoxyribonucleic Acid (ii) Rhino Nucleic Acid
(i) Deoxyribonucleic Acid: -
Acquisition: - In addition to plant viruses and retrovirus (such as HIV), genetic material is DNA in all other organisms.
In plant viruses, the genetic material is RNA.
There is only one horoscope molecule of DNA in bacterial and animal viruses and the protein cover is found around it.
Bacteria and eukaryotic cells, in the mitochondria chloroplasts, are DNA circular and nude. DNA is found in the nucleus of each cell. Together with the protein, the chromatin builds the trap.
DNA deoxyribonuclea is a long polymer of the nucleotides. DNA length usually depends on the nucleotide combinations found in it.
Eg. A bacterium called Φ × 174 has 5386 nucleotides, 48502 alkali pairs in bacteriophage lamda, 4.6 × 106 alkali pairs in Ischarchia coli, and 3.3 × 109 alkali pairs in human haploid DNA.
Molecular structure of DNA: -
Chemical analyzes have shown that one molecule of DNA is composed of three types of molecules.
(i) Punch carbon sugars known as deoxy ribose (pentose sugar)
(ii) nitrogenic
bacterial
( a) pyremidine (b) purine
(iii) phosphate group
